Kevin Garnett welcome to Boston. Didn’t Doc Rivers say Garnett didn’t want to come to Boston because the town was considered racist? Who knew 20 million a year (rumored contract extension) was enough to negate that “fact according to Doc”
The Celtics pretty much gave up a bunch of over rated unproven nobodies for one of the most well rounded players currently in the NBA but my question is So what?
If winning playoff rounds in the NBA was enough then this deal was a great deal but we already know that “winning rounds in the playoffs isn’t enough” so why make this deal?
The best case scenario is this makes the Celtics one of the top 3 teams in the East (that is according to every single so called expert I have heard talk from Steven A Smith to Jackie McMullen) so again I ask, So what? We already were one of the top 3 teams in the East and Danny Ainge insisted that wasn’t good enough so I don’t get why it now is all of a sudden good enough.
This is a desperation move by Ainge to keep his job and a move to make money for the owners. They certainly will sell a lot of tickets now (sorry kiddies in youth groups and organizations. No free third row seats for you anymore) but even if somehow this gets the Celtics to the NBA finals it won’t be a success unless they actually beat Dallas, Phoenix or San Antonio. The 3 teams most likely to come out of the West. Even winning a title isn’t a success IMO. You would have to win more then one title and be a Larry Bird like team that was always in the mix.
I made no secret of my dislike for Al Jefferson. Showing up for 3 months in a 3 year NBA career doesn’t merit the kind of credit Boston fans and media gave him. That being said I now feel sorry for the kid. He went from a future All Star that was going to lead the Celtics to to #17 to” just another player with bad knee’s that has never proven anything.” in a matter of 12 hours and yes folks that is an actual quote I read on a Celtics message board.
The Celtics currently have 3 guys over 30 each making over 20 million a year. I am pretty sure the luxury tax was set at 67 million for next season. Does that mean the Celtics now have 7 million dollars to work with for the rest of the team? If this gamble doesn’t work Danny Ainge will finally say hello to the un-employment line. I hope he takes the owners with him.
The future- 10 to one bet if Danny decides the number for Garnett is ends up being 8.
21 is retired and 12 is in use.

Top 3 in the East for sure. The Atlantic will be a dog fight.
Thanks for the commets Arsenalist.
Top 3 in the East is what we were before Ainge came to town. Top 3 in the east is not good enough.
What I don’t get is why being a top team in the east before wasn’t good enough but now it is okay? Does one really bad season and 4 bad years overall
all of a sudden negate the whole point of “Ainge” coming to town in the first place?
I guess I don’t get why all of a sudden the reason Ainge was here is a none issue. If this team as it is now with 3 old starters and no bench at all and all the experts say top 3 in the East then I still don’t get the point of any of this.
Thanks again for the comments.
I am pretty bummed at losing KG. There goes MN basketball.
Thanks for the comments Annieinmn. Sorry to hear you are so upset about KG and frankly I don’t see how Mchale has a job.
